Compendium of Curiosities Challenge 30!

Altered Metal with Paint
Sponsored by All Things Tim!

Happy nearly February, CCCers! I hope you've all had a wonderful week, and that you've had a chance to relax and create and spend time with the ones you love.

I've had a lot of sweet emails and comments wondering what's going to happen when the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge concludes in a few weeks. Without giving anything away quite yet, I'll just tell you that the end is NOT the end (that either sounds really Jedi, or really lame...I'm not sure which!). Stay tuned for more info as Challenge #35 (the final CCC) gets closer. ;-)

Right now, though, we're on lucky number 30! Are you ready to roll? Please open your Compendium of Curiosities to page 48, and let's put the paint to the metal!

If you've participated in the CCC before, you know that Gloria, who hosts the awesome All Things Tim group over at Yahoo, has been here every single week, generously sending a prize from her personal stash to a lucky participant. This week, Gloria asked if All Things Tim could be the main sponsor of Challenge 30, and I couldn't be more delighted or honored!

Gloria pours her heart and soul into the All Things Tim group, and is one of the most supportive and kind people in the crafting universe. She's been a wonderful friend to me and an incredible List Mom for the group. If you're not a member over there yet, please join! It's a genuinely wonderful way to meet other Tim fans, share ideas and learn so much cool stuff!

Gloria is going to send a spectacular MYSTERY PRIZE PACKAGE to the lucky winner of CCC #30! I can't tell you what's in it, but I can tell you it's going to be fabulous! To be eligible to win, simply create your own art using the Altered Metal with Paint technique and link it to this blog via the InLinkz button at the bottom of this post. You're in the running as long as you honor these two simple rules:

1. Follow the technique as it's written in A Compendium of Curiosities (adding your own special flair, of course!); and

2. Out of respect to Tim, please don't post the technique instructions on your blog!

I hope you all have a magnificent week, and that February brings you all kinds of good stuff! I think it's going to be a great month, don't you?

Hugs,
Linda

Happy last day of January, 2011! I don't know about you, but I'm ready to welcome a fresh new month with open arms. I love February, primarily because I love Valentine's Day and all the hearts, flowers and chocolate that go along with it (the chocolate is my favorite part of all, actually...).

The Weathered Wood Grunge art you guys created for Challenge 29 was extraordinary! I always come away from visiting your blogs feeling both inspired and humbled, and wow, did you ever knock my socks off last week! Beautiful work, everyone!

Drunken Stampers: They Say It's Our Birthday!

Stamp is "Kittie"by Loralei Designs, colored with Copics.

Bust out the champagne, y'all— the Drunken Stampers Challenge Blog is one year old today! We're celebrating in style with our Birthday Bash Challenge, and welcoming our new Design Team diva, Tash Daly, who's absolutely brilliant!

Peggy and Spike founded the Drunken Stampers last January on just a cocktail and a dream, and they... well, they absolutely rock! They keep the challenges fun and sassy and never fail to inspire. I'm honored to be part of their tanked troupe, and to get to play along with them, my buddy Tracy and now Tash every week. Cheers to them!

And, cheers to you, too! We love our participants, who never fail to inspire and delight us. Thank you for sharing your talents and making this such a blast for us all. Come on over to the lounge this week, have a (virtual) cosmopolitan, and show us your finest birthday card creations. We're celebrating all the way through next Friday, February 4, and can't wait to "ooh" and "ahh" at your art!

Gingersnap Creations: A Double Shot of Coffee!

I have been a bad, BAD crafter. You see, in all the bizarre-ness of my work life these past few weeks, I lost track of the fact that I never actually posted my design for the Gingersnap Creations Coffee Filter Challenge! Pathetic. So, with apologies to my friends on the Design Team, especially our illustrious Founding Femmes, I now humbly and MUCH belatedly offer my own coffee filter project.

The good news is, this particular challenge is open through February 6, so if you haven't already grabbed those filters and made magic of the non-drinkable kind with them, you've still got plenty of time!

Coffee Filter Fashion Statement.

The entire month of January has been dedicated to Hot Beverages over at Gingersnaps (a subject very dear to to my Starbucks-lovin' heart!), and our latest challenge is all about colors... Coffee and Cream, to be exact! I made a little ATC using one of my favorite stamps from Catslife Press and some Core'dinations cardstock, and my design team-mates just blew the roof off the joint with their gorgeous creations! I hope you'll check them out and submit your own Coffee and Cream art. This one's open all the way through February 20th!

I always "think art" better when I'm caffeinated, personally...

I hope you guys are all having a great week!

Hugs,
Linda

Gingersnaps and Coffee!

I am not ashamed of my complete addiction to coffee, and I've worked out a way to incorporate it into my other addiction, which is, of course, paper crafting! I did a little tutorial over at the Gingersnap Creations blog today that demonstrates how to use coffee grounds to easily turn a piece of boring white mulberry paper into a coffee-distressed background. I'd be honored it you'd check it out over your next cappuccino!

Drunken Stampers Bask in the Sunshine

...or not. Our theme this week at the Drunken Stampers Challenge Blog and Crafting Lounge of Destiny (!) is "Sunshine."As you can see, I sort of turned it on its head and made a melancholy little card, mostly because every time I tried to think of a way to approach this topic, Bill Withers kept popping into my mind. Here's he is now, so you can sing along:

Is he awesome, or what?

I used a Stampotique image called "Oh, Joy" for the little guy, but cut off his hat, which looked a bit too Christmas-y for this design. He's colored with Copic Sketch Markers. His lady love's photo is from Tim Holtz's Lost and Found Paper Stash. The background is gray cardstock onto which the text was inkjet printed. It's overstamped with the raindrops (I've had that stamp for a gazillion years and have no idea where it came from). The heart was cut free-hand from a scrap of Tim's paper, then torn town the middle. Stormy Sky Distress Ink was used to make a deep gray border.

Wait'll you see the cool and truly Sunshine-y art my Drunken Stampers teammates created for this challenge. Theirs is collectively far more upbeat. And, you're cordially invited to join us and share your own sunshine-themed (or anti-sunshine-themed) work of art at the Lounge anytime between now and next Friday night. We'd love to see your brilliance!

Hugs,
Linda

E-Team Special Mission: Chunky Tags and ATCs

Happy 4th Birthday to eclectic Paperie!

Chunky tags and ATCs? Why, they're all the rage! These pre-cut pieces of solid wood offer an easy and ridiculously fun way to take your altered art into the 3D realm. Daisy of eclectic Paperie sent the E-Team both the Tag- and the ATC-size, and since I couldn't decide which one to use for my own project, I decided to find a way to use them both...

Introducing: The LOVEBOT 3000!
"The Futuristic Face of Valentine's Day"
The Lovebot 3000 was lightly sanded, then painted with an Adirondack Metallic Silver Paint Dabber. He features antennae made from Maya Road Heart-Shaped Trinket Pins. His Valentine is a Jenni Bowlin Mini Bingo Card, his eyes are Maya Road Wood Bingo Motifs, his nose is a little Tim Holtz Idea-ology Washer, and his neck is a Tim Holtz Curio Knob. All the little hearts he wears are made from Grungeboard, embossed with the Gridlock Texture Fade embossing folder, painted with Adirondack Red Papper Paint Dabber, and smudged with Black Soot Distress Ink. His hands are charms from my box of stash, and his feet are oversized bottle caps.

The Lovebot 3000 comes equipped with his own little motherboard (a part from a broken down computer). The antique key to his heart is included.

The Lovebot is geared up with Idea-ology Sprockets and Tiny Fasteners.

Finally, you'll never forget his name, as the Lovebot includes copper letters cut using Tim Holtz's Vintage Market Strip Die

This is a blog hop, of course, and eclectic Paperie is going to give away a $25 Gift Certificate to each of TWO lucky winners who participate! To be eligible to win, simply visit each of the designers' blogs listed below and publish a comment!  Each blog will accept comments through this Thursday (1/20/11), but please leave one comment per person, per blog. The two winners will be announced on the eclectic Paperie blog on Friday, January 21st.

The E-Team is:
Linda L3-- That's me!

These ladies created some of the most incredible art for this blog hop! Truly, utterly gorgeous stuff. I know they'll inspire you, and if you'd like to get in on the chunky Tag / ATC fun yourself, Daisy is selling a couple of great starter kits over at eclectic Paperie. If you want one, order up-- there are only 25 of each available!

Full Kit

 Wood Only Kit

Thanks so much for stopping by, and don't forget to visit my E-Team friends and leave a comment at each blog to increase your chances of winning one of those $25 gift cards, courtesy of the always generous Daisy at eclectic Paperie!
